Sydney’s Film Club and Melbourne’s Picture Search are now oddities, but hold the key to niche and classic films not accessible on streaming platforms

It happens almost every day that Ben Kenny is open for business. Someone walks in, wide-eyed and open mouthed, and says, “I didn’t think these places existed any more.” The 40-year-old owns, a video store – or more accurately, a DVD rental store – in Sydney’s Darlinghurst. “When I opened in 2011, I was a rarity,” he says. “Now, I’m an oddity.”Steven Siewert
