Mars One contender Josh Richards has been searching for a place to call home for 35 years. Now that he's finally found it — cave diving in Mount Gambier — he's preparing to leave it all behind for a one-way trip to the Red Planet.

Once again he left his profession and moved on to something else. "Career ADHD" Mr Richards calls it."I've committed to things for longer and longer as I've found more purpose in them as I went."

"I wanted to use that idea as a metaphor for me actually leaving stand-up, talking about moving on to new things and letting the past go. A serious car crash involving his girlfriend in February 2020 led him back to Melbourne during COVID-19. Only in December last year did he get to move to Mount Gambier full time.

"I actually have the opportunity to explore here, go and dive these caves, learn more about the geology, how they connect to each other, why they form," he said.Finding 'home' for the first time"There's a much smaller group [of divers] who are really active, people like me who have moved here so we can dive all the time," Mr Richards said.Josh Richards does not see himself moving from Mount Gambier anytime soon — unless it's to Mars.

How can these people that think a one way trip to Mars is nuts, I mean what are they doing on earth that is so profound that requires their presence? Are they like Jobs, Elon? Einstein? Or are they just fearful people? Fear or not, you're still going to die, the question is how

I'm waiting for an earth type spaceship to be built to live in comfort having all my pacific needs catered for, and to be involved in all the chores thats needed for our earth type spaceship to keep us in good shape for the challenges ahead 'beam me up Scotty.'

Kiss your arse goodbye

I don't know how anyone could leave except through death. I could never take earth and all that is here for granted. Those people will forever be in an artificial environment detached. If it ever happens.

Pack my suit case

I thought the Mars One thing went bankrupt in early 2019? I’m confused.

I'm preparing to leave Earth for good - and it's not Mars I'm going to.

well the politics are better
