Snowy Hydro's chief executive Paul Broad's reign has ended after nearly a decade in the top job as his organsation rejects claims of a $2.2 billion cost blowout.

abc.net.au/news/snowy-hydro-boss-paul-broad-quits-project-delays/101376896The boss of Snowy Hydro has quit amid reported cost blowouts and delays on the Snowy 2.0 project.His resignation comes amid claims by the contractor Future Generation Joint Venture that the project has blown out by $2.2 billion, which Snowy Hydro has rejected."The Snowy board will now commence a process to identify new leadership," the statement said.

It said chief operating officer Roger Whitby would lead the organisation on an interim basis, with support from Mr Broad to facilitate a smooth transition.

Who could have guessed it would cost a bloody bomb and then some. I dare anyone to name one gov project that has ever been in budget ever.

Ok, so since these massive cost blowouts happen ALL THE TIME, isn’t it time to change something about how these projects are budgeted? Eg, anything over a billion dollars must be vetted/independently costed by a second body. Or do we just keep doing the same dumb sh!t?

So, when will we see cheaper energy?

Unsurprising. Broad is LNP through and through (and was appointed by Turnbull). Previously, when he was gutting telcos, he was very vocally against the NBN (when Labor had it as an election promise).

Newcastle Herald reports he was pushed because he told the truth about converting gas turbines to hydrogen and Bowan had a hissy fit.

Didnt quit, was pushed.

It's a great waste of money.. Money that could be better effectively spent on other techs.
