Natasha Kovacevic, 41, was imprisoned by the County Court of Victoria in June after pleading guilty to five fraud charges of obtaining financial advantage by deception.
She used her position to forge invoices from major client Repco and pocket hundreds of thousands of dollars while working in finance at car part manufacturer Clutch Industries. Her lawyer Felicity Gerry QC said Kovacevic had been in an abusive relationship that caused a severe gambling addiction that she used as an escape.Ms Gerry said it was an example of “sentencing single mothers for a financial offence” and that $400,000 of the money had been repaid with the rest covered by insurance.a punitive effect on a non-offender – the little child.
He said the sentence “properly reflected the objective gravity of the offending” and it was needed for “general deterrence, denunciation, and just punishment”.
