In the midst of panic is one indisputable truth - elderly people are particularly vulnerable to severe or fatal infection. So what should we do to protect our at-risk family?

Australians should continue to visit their elderly relatives provided they were practising social distancing, had not been overseas or in contact with a person diagnosed with coronavirus, an epidemiologist and adviser to the World Health Organisation said.

The death rate from coronavirus is significantly higher among People over 60, and especially over 80, and those with conditions often associated with age, such as heart disease, diabetes and respiratory illness.Anyone who has recently travelled overseas or has been in close contact with somebody who has recently returned from overseas should stay away until after they have self-isolated for at least two weeks, Professor McLaws said.

"Life should be about joy too, so do keep visiting your elderly parents and let them know you are there for them. If they're worried or you're worried, then teach them about how to use online apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime." Professor McLaws, who was an adviser to the World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 preparedness group, also said the federal government's cap of 500 people at social gatherings was an "arbitrary number".

Should we be locked down? Experts split on hardline COVID-19 measuresA chorus of doctors says urgent action needs to be taken to avoid thousands of preventable deaths. But public health experts are divided on the merits of a coronavirus lockdown. Taiwan Singapore and Taiwan claim to have achieved same result as China without using China's drastic measures. Perhaps we could look into what they've done. But these are small islands not big continents I think anyone that can keep their kids home possibly should? I still don’t know what to do and it’s nearly 8am... 😐🤔 I hope they have evidence to support their opinions. I hope they’ll take full responsibility for every single word out of their mouths.

Should we be locked down? Experts split on hardline COVID-19 measuresChildren should stay home from school and people should say goodbye to their grandparents for months, according to a chorus of doctors who say urgent action needs to be taken to avoid thousands of preventable deaths | HatAlexander liammannix HatAlexander liammannix At March 15, China’s population is 1.44B, so 81k cases is 0.0058% of population (sure questionable data) Italy 60,487,651 with 21,157 cases=0.035% (6x China already) Australia 25,499,884 x China rate means 1,465 cases same per capita as China. For US, 19,000. Too late, too slow. HatAlexander liammannix Look at what successful countries did. HatAlexander liammannix As we are debating here in Britain, what level of compulsion is appropriate in a free society as, of course, we both are. My view is strong advice from Government, but people make their own minds up whether to take it.

Should we be locked down? Experts split on hardline COVID-19 measuresDoctors are recommending people visit their grandparents before a lockdown is enforced - as it may be their last chance for a while. France (locked down): 4,480 confirmed cases 91 deaths Germany (not locked down): 4,585 confirmed cases 9 deaths You are running out of test kits. Without test kits everything you do is nonsense. People can infect others before they have symptoms. Shut off everything now. And will Susan Ley be visiting anyone even though she has a cold but is advised she doesn't need testing? Our Pathetic Govt! I bet she'd be shamed into a test by LNP if she were Labor.
