The embattled headmaster of Shore School has admitted his leadership has left teachers sad, angry and fearful in a long apology to the school’s staff, saying he has been unintentionally “disrespectful, insensitive and unwise”.

Critics say that under Dr Petterson’s leadership morale has dived, the school culture has been eroded, and dozens of experienced, highly regarded teachers have left. Some have found jobs elsewhere, including at Wenona, Newington and Sydney Grammar. On March 18, Dr Petterson delivered his apology to staff, a transcript of which was obtained and verified by the. He began by acknowledging the deep hurt, and conceded that his words and actions had contributed to sadness and anger.
