Shell is considering developing its own offshore wind project in Gippsland, intensifying a race between global powerhouses to develop the renewable energy source in Victoria.

A spokeswoman for Shell said the company was considering an Australian wind project, but did not address where a project could be developed.“Shell is investigating opportunities to transform our Australian portfolio, with offshore wind opportunities being of interest,” the spokeswoman said. Authorities have yet to declare how many projects will be permitted in Gippsland, though industry executives told theStar of the South – backed by Danish fund Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and the Australian superannuation fund
