In our Female Founders podcast, ModiBodi founder Kristy Chong urges women entrepreneurs to have a detailed plan for how to grow their businesses and to get their life partners on Trello. Listen today:

When Kristy Chong was just seven years old she wrote down what she wanted to be when she grew up.

She threw herself into research, taking a scientific approach and eventually getting a patent on the fibre technology ModiBodi would develop. It started with 500 pairs of leak-proof knickers. ModiBodi now turns over $70 million, selling not just its underwear around the world but a range of swimwear, activewear and a line designed for men, who also suffer from incontinence.

“I was breastfeeding, pumping, in the rooms at [advisers] Deloitte, and then going back up and doing [sale] pitches, and then still trying to run my business with a baby who didn’t even sleep in a cot. I had to hold her every night. That was really, really challenging. The eight-part series asks female founders for their daily hacks; something they might do each day to help them get more done.

Chong is running the ruler over a couple of investments, with her focus being on women making an impact, be it social or environmental.“They’re working on great pitch decks. I think the part that’s missing is how they’re truly going to grow it – what’s your three-month plan?”“Go and do it. Yes, it’s tough. But like having your children, you know how tough that is but how rewarding it is. It’s the same when you run your business. And your partner will come on the journey, eventually.

Congratulations on her success but she lost me when she will only support women entrepreneurs. How about end the sexism?

Women fear being ‘smashed’ by media for speaking out on trans athlete debateWomen aren’t confident to speak out about the issue of transgender athletes competing in female sports for fear of being “smashed” by the media and their teammates, Sky News host Rita Panahi. “This issue is critical, and it’s just one of fairness - it’s not about inclusivity, it’s about fairness,” she said. “Women and men are different, and when we pretend otherwise, it is women who lose out, particularly when it comes to sport.” You get used to being smashed. It’s humbling. They should just deal with losing Rita, you get mashed for saying stupid things, not because of your gender.
