More than 40 asylum seekers were located in a remote Western Australian community last Friday, sparking intense criticism of the Albanese government's handling of Australia's borders.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and shadow defence minister Andrew Hastie have accused Mr Albanese and Immigration Minister Andrew Giles of being "weak" on the issue, with Mr Hastie quick to highlight thehe claimed to have arrived since the government came to power in 2022. However, the government has brushed off those claims, insisting there has been no change to Operation Sovereign Borders on its watch and confirming the latest arrivals had been taken to Nauru for processing.
