Seven students say they've been asked by the Australian National University to leave an encampment on campus in solidarity with the people of Gaza .
The encampment has existed on the ANU campus for more than two weeks in solidarity with the people of Gaza amid Israel's war with Hamas. But the university has not confirmed that students were asked to leave, or provided the ABC with reasons for the orders. "The university supports students' right to protest but these activities must be safe and not cause unnecessary harm or damage to our campus or community."Nick Reich is from the Students for Palestine group, and said he was among the students who were asked to leave.
"There's discussions that needs to be had about that and we probably need to receive some legal advice but we reject that this choice has been forced upon us in the first place," he said. "But it's a university and the free form of debate and the democratic discussion of those ideas is central to what a university is."
