Employees from hundreds of government offices including Centrelink, Medicare, the PBS and Child Support will walk off the job on Tuesday after 'years of attacks' amid long-ongoing negotiations with the government.

Staff will go on strike for an hour this afternoon in hundreds of locations across the country, marking their first time to stage a walkout amid an ongoing bargaining round for better wages which was again pushed back on Monday.

CPSU’s claims include Services Australia workers being “attacked” by the welfare agency on a raft of matters including entitlement claims, workloads, leave obligations, flexible working arrangements, consultation, and family and domestic violence. One unusual practice previously called out by employees was that of timed toilet breaks in the agency’s call centres, which was defended on the basis of being a productivity boosting measure.

“Services Australia is the only agency to table cuts to employees’ entitlements in bargaining,” CPSU tweeted.

Australia has a ‘very concentrated banking sector’Forager Funds Management Chief Investment Officer Steve Johnson says Australia has a 'very concentrated banking sector' and the big four banks should not be buying more market share. “Because it is quite clearly from my perspective not going to be good for consumers,' he told Sky News Australia. “I think you’re seeing some of that in the very concentrated insurance space as well where not only are they passing on prices but they’re making pretty healthy profits at the moment as well.”
