Victorians are waiting about six months to see a psychiatrist, despite billions of dollars being poured into the state’s struggling mental health system – and young people are most at risk. | MeljCunningham

One reader, Mitch, said: “How will you reduce wait times for people requiring mental health services? Getting an appointment with a qualified mental health professional can take months, while physical trauma is tended to immediately.”said the state government had made efforts to deal with the growing mental health crisis, but they were concerned that billions of dollars in reforms and the royal commission recommendations were not being implemented fast enough.

On top of the billions announced in the 2021 budget, the Andrews government has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in mental health support in response to the pandemic. Reforms recommended by the mental health royal commission, including the rollout of 144 new acute mental health beds, have also been fast-tracked.to help repair the state’s stretched health and emergency services system, including a plan to train or hire up to 7000 healthcare workers.

MeljCunningham State investment $ on MH is spent on management, admin fees, and promotion of services. Actual delivery of MH interventions is by psychologists who claim a Medicare rebate for every single session (federal $) That’s why billions are being wasted in this space SackDanAndrews

MeljCunningham More success from Dan’s 1 rank in the world lockdown, ring of steel and closed playgrounds.

MeljCunningham Why are there so many people needing the service? It’s always give me more money it’s never WTF are we in such need.

DrAdrienneOneil MeljCunningham More support is definitely needed for children and adolescents in mental health if we want a healthy next generation Australians.

MeljCunningham The problem is that we have Dan Andrews that he hasn't even admitted his lockdowns caused this and apologised for it

MeljCunningham $190 an hour for my child to see their psychologist. Would be unaffordable for most. Price increased dramatically when NDIS came along

MeljCunningham This issue is Australia wide.

redscribe MeljCunningham I'm not sure when any Aus govt will realise you can't throw money at a problem if there's no skilled workers to carry it out. How about throwing money into EDUCATION! TAFE and university? Make it FREE! Forgive edu debt! Think of the benefits to the economy!

MeljCunningham Site of new mental health facility in Traralgon announced. Drug and Alcohol centre built in Traralgon. National Party MLC Melina Bath on radio wants an embargo for on non locals being treated there. Hope people in other regions don't block us from health services if we travel.

MeljCunningham Interesting that MH has received little comprehensive attention (at least thus far) in the lead up to Vic election.

MeljCunningham Well 'health care', 'public health measures' and you the media, did this What do you expect🙄

MeljCunningham At least there won't be a shortage of trains.

MeljCunningham Mental health is only such a huge issue because Victoria has such disastrous leadership. Nothing inspiration, authentic, proud and strong.

MeljCunningham Must be Kennett's fault...somehow

MeljCunningham The mental malaise of an entire generation of teenagers/school kids. And that blood will forever be on the hands of Dan Andrews and his ridiculous overreach during Covid.

MeljCunningham You know full well the money goes into ads & services that do not deliver. It's become a 'pyramid scheme' on *Tax Payers money - same as *Housing, the bottom line gets done over! Nil gets to ground. Negative Vortex systems must be stopped! It's a con by business to steal budgets!

MeljCunningham just bad news story after bad news story … anyone might think this newspaper has an agenda …

MeljCunningham

MeljCunningham Didn’t Andrew’s say he saved everyone?

Victorian opposition objects to repatriation of ‘so-called Isis brides’, as election campaign beginsMatthew Guy says allowing families of fighters to resettle from Syria could compromise the safety of Victorians You’d think a bloke in Guys position would know what laws are under Federal and State jurisdictions. Apparently not, but that’s not unexpected. I'd be more concerned that eating Lobsters with Mobsters could do that. They know it's a federal matter right?
