Emergency powers announced as workers swarm streets in Hong Kong crisisHong Kong chief executive Carrie Lam has handed emergency powers to police as everyday Hong Kongers swarm the streets in objection to a ban on face masks. The emergency law invoked by the Hong Kong govt could be used arbitrarily to impose whatever measures detrimental to the human rights and freedom of HK people. This is extremely worrying if the world lets the HK govt to act in this direction. HongKongProtests EmergencyLaw This emergency law enables the chief executive to bypass the normal legislative process. This could be just a starter. More draconian bans in the name of law could be lurking around the corner. There is no room for HongKongers to compromise but continue to fight for democracy. bernice______ Before blaming the protesters for violence, please first understand why this happened. The Police have used excessive force and made lethal attacks. In this context, you can't expect the protesters to stand still and wait to be arrested.
