Two women who were in a vehicle that was smashed into in a devastating Brisbane crash this week have been identified as close friends Lily Galbraith and Emma McLean.

Bruce Daley, 56, a former police officer who was medically retired from the Queensland Police Service in 2014, stopped his car at the citybound entrance of the tunnel before revving the engine and accelerating, witnesses reported. She had only recently become engaged to her boyfriend at the beginning of April and shared a touching video of the proposal with the caption:"You and me forever".

Mr Daley, who died in the crash, had posted online about loneliness and relationship struggles on social media for several years.
