In a rare move, parliament is expected to formally condemn his behaviour.
Cabinet will today discuss a push by Labor backbench MPs to formally sanction Morrison for being secretly sworn in to run additional portfolios. It comes after the release of the inquiry's report last Friday by former High Court judge Virginia Bell into the saga. The last time an MP was formally censured in federal parliament was in 2018.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese yesterday said Morrison, who remains a Coalition backbench MP, should issue a public apology. "What I'm interested in is the relationship or lack thereof between Scott Morrison and the Australian people."I didn't see any contrition in Scott Morrison's statement last Friday, and I find that just extraordinary, that anyone can read the Bell Inquiry and not be embarrassed if you're the subject of it."The Bell inquiry concluded it was "unnecessary" for Morrison to appoint himself as the secret minister for finance and health.
Morrison defended his actions in a statement on Facebook, saying there were made to "best advance and protect Australia's national interests and the welfare of the Australian people".Young man tricked into blowing up plane mid-air by drug lord
What does censure mean for Morrison - really, what will the repercussions be, if any.
He knows what he can do if he doesn’t like it
And he thinks he is religious , not even a religious persons boot lace.
Get rid of him
My, how the 'virtuous mastermind' has fallen, it was a long time coming, from the time he manipulated the seat of Cook to get what he wanted, sacked from good jobs twice, went on leave while Australia burned, kept saying 'it's not my job' when it was, lied, lied & lied constantly
Surely parliaments time could be better served? Is there not more pressing matters?
Can i refuse to pay my taxes due to them going to this gronks pension
He should be the first one….but there are whole lot of Premiers, CHO’s and unelected bureaucrats that need to follow
Dutton ill in hospital w covid early ‘20. Other parliamentarians caught covid during trip to US. Was unknown, potentially dire/frightening scenarios in Feb/Mar 20-thought be huge % hospitalisations & deaths by in May’20. Big time to be PM- he invoked emergency responsibility plan
What does “censure” mean. I understand what he did was not illegal, I’ll advised maybe, but not illegal.
How will this improve costofliving when will electricity price be lower maybe when politicians focus on real issues and not the canberrabubble
I agree. Parliament should severely censure Scott Morrison. HE LIED to all of us. Australia is a democracy not a megalomaniac dictatorship. He should be stood down and banned from ALL FORMS OF PUBLIC LIFE and take away his 'right' to a parliamentary pension.
A witch hunt. Not like old DanielAndrewsMP and his chapter book of IBAC appearances and approving his police force to use rubber bullets on his own constituents auspol ausvotes ibac
Like what will that actually achieve? Fuck all. Nothing. Nada. It's a joke. And not even a good one.
Censure!! Whoop de f-ing do. I can lend you a lettuce leaf to slap him with which will be as powerful as a censure from a bunch of time-servers, elitists and out of touch lifetime failures. Divert, deflect - we’re out of our depth but we look tough.
For the welfare of the Australian people? Right. 😆
Condemning the behaviour via censure is a slap on the wrist...nothing more...nothing less.
They should be able to expel him from Parliament and cancel his life long PM's pension that he can get while still working full time.....
