The Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force is investigating 55 allegations, mostly killings of Afghan non-combatants, by Special Forces soldiers.

The military watchdog is investigating 55 separate allegations of unlawful conduct in Afghanistan by Australian soldiers.

He and a team of 14 military officers have so far interviewed 338 witnesses in an attempt to get to the bottom of rumours of wrongdoing by Australia's Special Forces soldiers. Mr Gaynor said the inquiry's task had been very difficult because it started by following up vague rumours of serious wrongdoing by SAS soldiers, but it was moving into the final stages.

"Gaining the confidence and trust of some of these witnesses, whose ADF careers have been spent in an environment in which secrecy is treated as fundamental, has required considerable effort and time."Afghan Files military whistleblower David McBride back before ACT court

Terrible things happen when you put people in situations where it's kill or be killed. Sometimes, the boundaries get blurred. Be just, but be human. Gee.. isn't that why the ABC got raided ? After fighting the enemy overseas our military is forced to fight the enemy wearing suits in Australia.

Secret Defence probe into alleged unlawful killings in Afghanistan enters final stagesThe inquiry, focusing on accusations of unlawful killings and the cruel treatment of civilians and former enemy fighters, is now expected to be wrapped up in the next few months. Will ABC be reporting on the Afghani Bacha Bazi culture that US & Aus forces were told not to complain about while serving in the country? One sincerely trusts that all ADF members past and present interviewed by this inquiry remain silent at the risk of self-incrimination. A witch-hunt of the first magnitude that fully deserves to receive zero assistance. Could someone tell me why John Howard isn’t also being investigated for war crimes. Under Howard, Australia joined a coalition of forces who invaded Iraq based on a Republican lie.
