When Sarah Loh arrived in Australia, her Chinese mum told her sport was the key to fitting in. But her ascent to become CEO of an Aussie Rules league wasn't easy.

When Sarah Loh arrived in Australia in 1977 her Chinese mum gave her some advice: the best way to assimilate was through sport.

She's been a multicultural ambassador, played local footy and coaches a women's masters side, the Waverley Warriors. Victoria University surveyed 221 diverse women who were current and former coaches, managers and board members and found:Many aspiring leaders believed their gender and background was a barrier"I usually say that a woman of colour faces the double-glazed glass ceiling," said lawyer Molina Asthana, who has sat on boards and served as a multicultural ambassador across different sporting codes.

"Women also felt that they were there just for the sake of statistics, rather than being there for the voice of other women," Professor Hanlon said.In a bid to create change, Victoria University has developed a guide for both grassroots and elite sporting organisations, including strategies to call out racism and a boys club mentality.
