Frustration over elective surgery delays
While those elective surgeries resumed in regional Victoria a week ago, authorities said most were unlikely to restart in Melbourne until next week. Victoria's elective surgery waitlist has blown out since last year, with 65,780 patients on the waiting list as of March 2021. "So we're encouraging people to go to their beautician and hairdresser with people not vaccinated … while in public hospitals, the waiting lists are horrible."Plastic surgeon Neela Janakiramanan said the delay was placing even more strain on an overloaded system and patients were furious.
Matthew Hadfield, the Victorian chair of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, said the college had been speaking with the department about a better way to manage elective surgeries during COVID-19 outbreaks."But the pandemic is changing. We need to relook at the [hospital] restrictions and see what better restrictions could be put in … to keep doing surgery as much as we possibly can," Dr Hadfield said.
Welcome to Scott Morrison's Australia were we have zero rights
You get what you vote for Sam
No. Sam is 300km from the nearest “known” COVID case. That one word makes all the difference.
So... you're saying there is no correlation between having covid based restrictions in places where sick people might concentrate with vulnerable people, and being able to say you live somewhere '300km from a COVID case' ? Are you not happy about keeping him that far from it ?
No. He can't. Nor can anyone else visit hospital patients. And?
Absurd rules by an authoritarian government
Some rules are just insane! I know a son with stage 4 cancer patient mother and he cant be her side.
Bloody outrageous. Talk about over the top restrictions. No balance here. This virus has caused the powers that be to lose perspective. Lockdowns at all cost! Nuts
As much as I have some sympathy for Sam and his wife here, relaxing rules around hospitals is the worst thing we could do when there is uncertainty about origin and/or spread. Being 300km away is not a barrier, COVID doesn't drive, it hitchhikes.
