The former Auburn deputy mayor, who shot to fame after his lavish wedding, bizarre media appearances and frequent brushes with the law, was released from Cooma Correctional Centre on Tuesday, wearing a sharp blue suit and shades.
He was jailed in June but the conclusion of his 11-month stint in prison on Tuesday won’t mark the end of his legal woes. Police say the 32-year-old orchestrated the crash in the western Sydney suburb of Lidcombe which left him in hospital so he did not have to face trial for the alleged assault of a taxi driver.Mehajer was charged in January last year with perverting the course of justice and conspiracy to cheat and defraud over the crash, in what has previously been described as a “premeditated scheme”.
