The Government had flagged its intention to ban the products by the middle of this year but that was delayed due to the pandemic. State Environment Minister David Speirs said plastic items would be banned in a staged approach, with the aim of removing them altogether.
I hope they have made allowances for people with certain disabilities to still be able to access plastic straws.
As a swimmer , I come across more masks than straws.
This is long overdue! I hope the rest of Australia follows suit.

Hobart was the first place to legislate by laws that prohibit single-use plastics. Naturally we are used to other states swiping our clout, but for the sake of editorial factuality, perhaps edit the article? 😂
