A Russian tennis player has doubled down after he wrote a provocative message on a TV camera lens at the Australian Open.

The Republic’s only connecting road to Armenia - known as the Lachin corridor - was barricaded over a month ago, consequently limiting access to supply of medicine, electricity, food, transport and gas.

Khachanov defended his actions after the ATF wrote a strongly worded statement revealing it sent a letter of protest to the ITF. “I have Armenian roots from my father’s side, from my grandfather’s side, even from my mum’s side. I’m half Armenian,” Khachanov told reporters. Russian player Karen Khachanov was under fire by the Azerbaijan Tennis Federation over his post-match messages on TV camera lenses in support for the Republic of Artsakh. “The ATF condemned this act and demanded that the tennis player be punished and urged the International Tennis Federation to take harsh measures for prevention of such incidents in the future.” After Khachanov's first camera message about Artsakh, Azerbaijan's tennis federation sent a complaint about Khachanov to the International Tennis Federation, demanding he be"punished" with"harsh measures" for his"heartfelt words."

Russian-born fears death after Australian visa expiresRussian-born Ludmila Kovaleva fears she may face imprisonment or death in Russia if her visa is not renewed by the Australian Department of Immigration – despite multiple rejected attempts since she fled Moscow in 2010. “The last option is the minister Andrew Giles exercises power and grant her a visa to stay here where she can live safely,” says lawyer Simon Jeans. Mr Jeans said there was a “system problem” within the immigration department which often refuses the “most meritorious” cases. “Hopefully members of parliament, senators, community leaders, religious leaders can intervene on someone’s behalf,' he told Sky News Australia. She has a point. We need temporary refugee visas which are easy to obtain and reviewed after a period of time. When deemed safe to return these visa holders must return home withing a short period of time. No possible avenue for perm res, other the perhaps marriage. No appeals.
