Of particular concern was the shelling of Nikopol, a city lying across the Dnipro river from Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine's and Europe's biggest nuclear plant. It has been held by Russian forces since March.
Nikopol was shelled on five different occasions overnight, regional governor Valentyn Reznichenko wrote on Telegram. The timing of this is very suspicious. Putin needs public support for the invasion and troop morale is low. What better than to stage an attack in Russia on a photogenic face (who was super pro-invasion) to justify increased aggression on Ukraine’s upcoming Independence Day?
