Head of Music Therapy at the Royal Melbourne Hospital Dr Emma O’Brien says the Scrub Choir initiative was a response to “extraordinary stress” created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the course of the coronavirus pandemic, the Royal Melbourne Hospital’s ‘Scrub Choir’ have been using musical therapy for those in need of a special kind of COVID relief.

They are currently back by popular demand – this time recruiting over 900 healthcare workers from all around the world. “We all go to work in health because we want to care for people, we want to take care of patients and the community and having all the extra stresses on top of that and the fear and it’s been a really tough time,” Dr O’Brien told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“And that’s where Scrub Choir came to life, it was in response to that just extraordinary stress and just to see the power of music.”
