After years of delays, the Commonwealth Attorney-General releases a long-awaited report into child sexual abuse within the Anglican and Catholic churches in Newcastle, but the wait has been 'painful'.

Abuse survivors have welcomed reports from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse made public today that reveal previously unseen details about abuse by priests within the Anglican and Catholic churches in Newcastle. The long-awaited findings include case study 43, focusing on allegations against Marist Brothers in Newcastle and Lower Hunter

Catholic Church abuse survivor Peter Gogarty says he is still hoping senior Catholics will be held to account. "To date, we still have not have a successful prosecution for all those people that enabled this abuse, that moved abusers around so they could do it again," Mr Gogarty said. One of the cases heard by the royal commission involved 13-year-old Andrew Nash, who was a student at Marist Brothers Hamilton in the 1970s.Audrey Nash, 94, holds a photograph of her son Andrew.

In the time since Andrew's death, Mrs Nash came to believe Andrew was sexually abused by his form master, Brother Cable."The circumstances give rise to an inference that Cable asked whether Andrew left a note because Cable was concerned that Andrew's suicide might lead to suggestions that he was sexually abused coming to light," the report said.

This is interesting, given that the ABC (so far) has given little, if any, coverage of the revelations produced at yesterday's sitting of the Coates Inquiry.

The article suggests regret for paedophilic activity in the last 30 years. Most likely the church has been a bastion for paedophilia for all of its existence. This may even be an unwritten rite for a section of the clergy. Tax the church in Australia and something good.

I am sitting here numb & I think my heart has stopped a beat AGAIN!!

Too late Pell has flown the coop.

MeljCunningham reports. MeljCunningham Of course he/she has... MeljCunningham Very worrying. I wish them a speedy recovery. MeljCunningham 1. Authors lack common sense. Why scare the community by reporting a covid incident unless it’s confirmed whether the test done on Oct 15, a full 4 days ago was a false positive or not? This kind of irresponsible article should not have been published. Wait for a false positive

Government acts to improve privacy protections for witnesses at disability royal commissionThe federal government is taking steps to protect the privacy of witnesses involved in a royal commission into the abuse of people with disability, after advocates warned privacy concerns were stopping people from coming forward. When the lnp promises protection, don’t believe them; they are just looking for ways to profit from people’s disabilities. Im wondering what the point of these royal commissions are when the Fed Govt ignores them. Remember the royal commission onto AgedCare? No?
