US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has submitted a letter of resignation to President Donald Trump, effective 11 May.

US Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has submitted his resignation, ending a two-year run defined by his appointment of a special counsel to investigate connections between Donald Trump's presidential campaign and Russia.Mr Rosenstein's departure had been expected following the confirmation of William Barr as US attorney general in February.

Mr Rosenstein appointed Mr Mueller in May 2017 following the recusal of then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions and oversaw much of his work.
