Robodebt scandal: Labor pledges a royal commission if elected to government | latikambourke

A royal commission into the robodebt scandal will begin by the end of the year if the opposition wins the May 21 election, Labor frontbencher Bill Shorten has pledged.

The opposition’s spokesman on government services Bill Shorten said there were still questions that needed to be answered. The scheme put the onus on those receiving Centrelink to prove that they didn’t owe the debt. In many instances people were falsely accused of owing debts. And it paid $1.8 billion to settle a class action brought against by victims of the scheme but set aside just $112 million in compensation which equates to less than $300 per person affected.

The commission would examine who was responsible for establishing the scheme, how it was created and the handling of complaints and how much the scheme ended up costing taxpayers.“Robodebt was a human tragedy, wrought by this government ... it caused untold misery,” he said in a statement.

latikambourke A royal commission…wow …..how much do your plan on fleecing that taxpayer for that?

latikambourke So it should...how many died because of Morrison's idea for this evil and illegal scheme. robodebt VoteThemOut

RBJRON latikambourke Yes your gone now LNP !!!!!

latikambourke Good

latikambourke The Libs do not prioritise vulnerable people...they use their position to oppress their voices and attempt to demonise them...they clearly believe social support recipients are just rip off artists, the attitude is present at Federal and State level

latikambourke Someone needs to investigate the suicides of over 2,000 vulnerable people who were pursued relentlessly by a privately owned Company operating under regulations encouraged and condoned by an ultra conservative Minister and protected by a gaslighting PM. Centrelink is compromised.

latikambourke Bloody brilliant!

latikambourke Did we ever have a royal commission on labor’s failed policies from last election? Hmm.. I guess the buzz word is always royal commissions. None of the recommendations ever get implemented

latikambourke Not one politician held accountable 🥲 LNPMassiveFail insiders

latikambourke It must happen. So much misery and lives lost.

latikambourke Someone should be accountable about this we need a royal commission

latikambourke And we all know who instigated Robodebt...Scott Morrison...he must be terrified of losing this election...his sins will surely come to rest ..many people died..many people severely stressed..what sort of a person thinks up such a deviate plan...not a leader...

latikambourke So why didn't that nice young Mr. Becker just make some discreet generous donations to the Tory Party like everybody else? 'Stupid Boy'!

latikambourke More than 2030 people died after receiving a Centrelink debt notice, also known as robodebt, according to data released in 2019 by Dept of Human Services Of those, 429, roughly ⅕, were aged 35 Nearly a ⅓ - 663 people - were classified as 'vulnerable'

latikambourke Given Lord Rothermere's (Hammersmith-born) long old UK Tax-evading Non-Dom scam cos daddy ran off to France, could Manhatten-born Boris (daddy also orft to France) do the same?

latikambourke 🤣
