Richmond beats Gold Coast to end AFL's 'festival of football'

Richmond has kept pace with the top four, with a hard-fought 21-point win over Gold Coast at the Gabba.

The game brought to an end the AFL's "festival of football", with 33 games scheduled in 20 days in a bid to help complete the season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.The opening quarter was dominated by the Tigers, but they could only manage two goals from their 17 inside 50s. Gold Coast showed they could hit fast on the break, and the Suns managed to keep the Tigers penned in and then defended desperately late in the quarters to maintain a 10-point lead at half-time. However their haul of 1.5 for the quarter would prove costly.

There was a lot of scrappy play in the third term, and when Gold Coast looked to open up the ground with switches in play, they came unstuck several times with inaccurate kicks trying to find people in their forward 50.
