Australian Formula One star Daniel Ricciardo has conceded the delayed start to the season forced him into a decision on his future based more on gut feel than on-track performances.

With Ricciardo's Renault contract up for renewal at the end of 2020, and not a single race run so far this year due to the COVID-19 hiatus, the Australian said he couldn't afford to wait until the season got underway. "It's kind of what pitch do you, maybe even 'believe' is too much. But what pitch excites you more than the other?

"I think obviously Vettel's announcement or news with Ferrari kind of sparked everything, and then things were moving pretty quickly around Carlos and all the other stuff." "I would obviously expect that and love that from Lando. I say expect it because he had a very strong rookie year - I'm pretty sure he outqualified Carlos [Sainz], and that was quite a statement for his rookie year.
