Rex to challenge ‘fare gouging’ Qantas with Sydney-Canberra flights | pwhatch

Rex is gradually launching services between capital cities as a challenger to Qantas and Virgin, and has leased six Boeing 737s jets with $150 million funding from private equity group PAG Asia Capital.Sydney and Melbourne earlier this month

Rex’s deputy chairman John Sharp said “fare gouging” was rife on the route and that his airline’s fares would deliver significant benefits to the public. However Virgin plans to relaunch Sydney-Canberra flights from July 26, possibly in partnership with charter operator Alliance Airlines, which has smaller aircraft better suited to the short flight than Virgin’s 737 jets.

Almost a million passengers a year flew the 55 minute hop between the two cities before the coronavirus pandemic took hold, with significant demand from business and government travellers.

pwhatch Rex has an opportunity to beat Qantas in many regional areas desperate for a regular air service. To name a few, Deniliquin, Tocumwal, Ballarat, Shepparton. Its not just flights to capital cities but flights between regional centres which are desperately needed.

pwhatch Go hard Rex, but I think you are up against it. QANTAS has the Federal Govt giving them an unfair competitive advantage.

pwhatch Well done Rex. Support for our little Aussie battler
