Travel expert Quentin Long said airlines were taking advantage of people's desperation to go on holidays."We're in this world of revenge travel where 'no matter how much it costs I just want to travel so will pay anything'," Long said.In some cases, travellers have been paying as much as $1000 to fly from Sydney to Melbourne or Adelaide.
If you're willing to fly mid-week, outside peak times, and you're not fussed with what airline you fly with, it is still possible to fly to Melbourne from Sydney before Christmas for $149.
