Retail spending has soared as restrictions ease across Australia.

May sales were up 17 per cent compared with April resulting in the highest increase on record. The May increase almost reversed April's loss.

Credit and debit data from the Commonwealth bank also saw a lift in consumption. Spending on household goods in June increased by 25 per cent compared with last year. The Australian Retailers Association said the increase in spending indicated a pent-up demand caused by lockdowns. Image: Getty

Australia faring better on COVID-19 than around the world | Sky News AustraliaDespite the COVID-19 focus being on America and the politics surrounding President Trump, Europe has in fact fared much worse than the US and Australia says Sky News host Chris Kenny. \n\n“There's a huge focus on the US, which has the highest total death toll in the world, more than 130,000 people, and where the outlook is bleak,” Mr Kenny said. \n\nLooking at the data surrounding death rates in differing countries and Australia’s situation, he said “if we had Canada's death rate we would have more than 5500 deaths already”. \n\n“If we'd matched the disaster of the US we'd have almost double that, almost 10,000 deaths by far”. \n\nMr Kenny said if we compared to the UK, Australia would have lost more than 16,000 people and over 21,000 compared to Belgium. \n\nImage: AP realDonaldTrump So what you fu-King sociopaths! realDonaldTrump “Europe has in fact fared much worse than the US and Australia.” This sentence makes no sense. Victoria records 66 new cases, suburbs outside lockdown zone record high number of infectionsTwo suburbs bordering a lockdown zone have recorded a high number of additional infections in the past week. Flemington and Kensington have not been identified as hotspots and are not yet in lockdown, but border Ascot Vale, which is already in lockdown. maybe we expect better of govt & health dept management of virus clusters allowed to blow out with govt spin 'handled absolutely perfectly' & protestors immune from enforcement. The debarcle that is hotel quarantine is the final straw. The health minister must resign.

Melb hotel security guards are 'just cowboys in it for the rork' | Sky News AustraliaSky News contributor Michael Ware says he was astounded by the “so many horrors” taking place in Melbourne’s hotel quarantine system which were propelled by the government’s “outsourced” security firms. \n\nReports emerged suggesting security guards employed to enforce quarantine measures on returned travellers slept with guests and allowed them to break strict isolation regulations by leaving their rooms. \n\nMore than 50 cases of coronavirus have been so far linked back to the failed hotel quarantine system. \n\n“Keeping our Australian public safe and protected from a global pandemic is essentially a sacred trust that we should hold in a government - the first thought is who on earth considered outsourcing this security,” Mr Ware told Sky News. \n\n“This takes professionals with honour who are in the service of their country,” he said. \n\n“Some of these [security] companies are just cowboys in it for the rork.\n\n“To think that a democratic state outsourced this sacred duty to what turns out to be a fly-by-night operation, it astounds me.” \n\nImage: News Corp Australia yeah...that's what happens when you have private enterprise doing government jobs...just like prison system...
