Restaurant owners who had booked in diners, rostered on staff and bought thousands of dollars worth of food are dismayed at the extension of coronavirus restrictions.

Brooke Pollock, owner of Moorabbin restaurant Arcobar, and her partner, Franz Madlener, stressed they understood the decision by the Andrews government on Saturday to prolong restrictions limiting restaurants to just 20 seated diners until at least July 12.Restaurants with sufficient floor space were to be allowed up to 50 diners from Monday.

When the pandemic lockdown started in March, Ms Pollock returned thousands of dollars in deposits for functions. In the lead-up to Monday's supposed relaxation, she had taken deposits from those eating while there was live music at her venue. "Now I've got to do refunds all over again." But he said it was positive that from Monday, customers could drink at a bar without needing to also order food.

But he believed restaurant operators – who obeyed strict rules around food safety and alcohol – were easily capable of handling social-distancing rules.

Blame the BLM protestors. You don't see people in the US protesting about the rights of the native Indians... but in Australia, you'll find toxic hipsters everywhere you turn protesting about things they know nothing about or misinformation they got from the interwebs.

And people in Vic say that Western Australia is backwards. Can go to a nightclub or the casino this weekend in Perth, if I want. At a pub last Saturday with a group of about 10-15, shook hands and hugged

Wah wah, hospitality a tough game

spell it with me: T A K E A W A Y. There you go.

Should really place those families that flout restrictions into supervised quarantine at their own cost & let everyone else doing the right thing start to return to normal. If people are happy to risk hanging indoors let them if they test+ supervise iso cost them/if flouting

they could cook it or donate as is & write off as a donation under expenses...no wonder so many businesses go broke these days poor accounting/bookkeeping skills

People are interacting non other venues and shopping centres everyday, in the hundreds touching and bumping into each other..yet sitting down for a meal or meeting with lived ones is outlawed!

Good one Dictator DanielAndrewsMP Might be time to resign?

Covid will now be trotted out to justify the Victorian Police State

Maybe they would rather we all die?

Just ignore the government as they ignore normal Australians.

This premier is a joke They know where these outbreaks are coming from They are just loving locking everyone down These businesses are finding it hard enough without losing more stock now. Let's be fair

DIDDUMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a pandemic. There are no certainties. These flogs pushed to relax restrictions and even accepted spikes and deaths. Now we have the spike they're losing their shit?

Government should have held off raising number of patrons. Trying to go toe toe with NSW.

People have some sympathy for the small business owners. Told almost 2 weeks that larger sittings allowed, and then have rug pulled Saturday arvo. They’d bought stock anticipating to serve customers.

Oh well - that’s a pandemic for ya.

Somebody call the waaaambulances.

This Premier is a proper lying socialist destroyer of businesses! Michael O’Brien make some noise!!!

Well they have the self entitled who made the choice not to follow the rules assuming they knew better and ruined it for the rest of us to blame.

Never understand what Dan Andrews is doing? He is so chicken out he should stay home and hide under his bed. Would anyone believe 14 cases could cause the death of 5 million people. Being cautious is good but overly cautious is damaging. Andrews must learn how to manage.

TimSmithMP They’d be more worried if they had to close permanently. Read the figures and stop making this all about partisan politics. It’s about saving lives. And you are NOT helping.

Dan had no probs with protestors but blames families instead. Nice.

Note to restaurant owners and yourself. Dead people don't eat at restaurants or read shitty newspapers. You're welcome.

Dan is doing this to divert attention from his and Labor’s problems

Really feel for these businesses but don’t think gov’t had a choice

When will the media barons fess up the $hundreds of millions the liberals are tossing to the MSM in absolutely unnecessary government advertising is the real reason behind the get Dan campaign. A state LNP government would mean more advertising loot, Goebels would be proud.

Victoria seem to have lost the plot........get rid of health minister Jenny Mikakos.

What is the connection between coronavirus clusters in certain municipalities, branch stacking, and council mismanagement. Labor party members. Get your members under control Dan.

Our exalted Premier must be having a quiet chuckle to himself this morning. This article in a major city newspaper has about 50 comments so far on Twitter. About 2 comments are about his CORRUPTION SCANDAL. Our exalted Premier has found the key to all cover-ups - Covid-19.

There should never have been allowed 20 people in a home in the first place at such an early stage. This was far too many people when compared to all the other restrictions. There was never any rules as to size of house. If I had 20 people at my place we would be all in contact.

Well, they’re silly. Blind Freddie could see this coming.

Disgraceful Dan Andrews blaming families when he and his governments allowed thousands to protest!! Pathetic!

Restaurants are working hard to enforce strict distancing. So we're trying to solve a problem that's happening in private homes by changing the rules where the transmissions aren't occuring. Seems kind of wrong-headed.

Thank the deadshits who can’t see their family without tonguing them & the arse face protesters who think they’re doing something positive - all lives are in danger with the virus but no let’s try change the world. 👎🏻

Probably the most disappointing thing from this was the inconsistent messaging from the BLM rally through to the community. You didn't need to look hard to see after that, effort just waned in the community with shopping centres full etc Seems that Dan's wheels are wobbling.😥

The Age is officially a RW Rag

Rubbish approach by the Government, punish the majority for the failures of a minority. Because families cannot follow the rules, business are punished. Those who want to keep the lockdown are simply protecting their JobKeeper and want to vegetate on the couch which being paid.

Heartbreaking and financially costly for these businesses.

Yeah, that Coronavirus really has no basic understanding of how difficult the hospitality industry is. Covid-19, try walking a day in the shoes of someone else for a change!

Not the Government's fault but irresponsible People.

That was always on the cards. If the virus spikes restrictions will be reviewed..( that means reverted ) DA has said this consistently.

Qlder Send the bills to Dan, he caused it!

🤡

Hot spots and the possibility of retightening restrictions was always on the cards. Ask Scomo or the CMO or the experts, they said so back in March ffs. This virus is not going to go away until we find a vaccine ya morons.

ClayLucas you do realise most of us know you are the Costello media and what you write is just verbal fellatio to keep in good stead with the boss.

ah the Costello media trying to put the boot in to the labour government that is trying to do the right thing

Well they can blame stupid, selfish people who refuse to self isolate. People are acting like the Coronavirus pandemic is over. It's not by a long shot.

To bad I look after and live with my elderly and frail father, i do not wan't to be the one that kills him. I am being as cautious as i can but there are a lot of idiots out there.

Suck it up as its how business can run, you can't expect it to go your way all the time

The whole of Victoria goes into lockdown because a couple of families did wrong thing this isn’t even a community spread issue /and what happened to ‘sty home flatten the curve ‘ it’s flat BUT we are in lockdown again WTF!!?

📸 Ok I now I want to you to look sternly at the camera and 3..2..1 *click*

How about a charity bake for the poorest, most vulnerable, and the homeless, in our society? These are extraordinary times in which we are living.

So Victoria with a population of 6.3 million people and approximately in the last week about 50-60 (0.001%) people due to some stupidity the whole state and country goes into a meltdown. Government & Media hysteria again controlling the masses

chris_dignan Just open anyway. It’s a joke they let that BLM protest go ahead so to hell with it.

Blame the protestors and the jobless spreading the virus.

Meanwhile maccas , hungry jacks , pizza hut -and every other american shit house- r doing very well. Very well indeed

Send the bill to Dan

It’s the cu*ts they letting in our country from overseas. Letting them quarantine for two weeks and then letting them out in the community when they still have the virus in their system. Absolute disgrace

Why are you shocked Victorian’s..?

That’s very unfortunate and frustrating!!! Australia has already closed the border for a while, I do not understand why there are still having the community transmitted COVID19Vic cases I really feel so sorry for all the business and restaurants especially for the small one

Imagine how upset they'd be if they caught COVID19 you bunch of arseclowns...

Yeah, pandemics are a real bitch

Stupid restrictions. 50 Customers is still less risky than the thousands at Chadstone, Bunnings and those dumb protests.

Are people aware that there is a pandemic crisis and millions of people dead 💀 from it. It is killing humans relentlessly. A bit of patience will keep humans alive. Patience is the key to keeping at bay C-19 and a second wave of it.

We’re living through a pandemic 🤦‍♀️ but let’s all just ignore that and go out for dinner 😒 Seriously 😐 that’s where you’re going with this... maybe put the blame where it lies with the sloganeering FauxMo CovidSafe my arse .

mat_dunckley

They don't deserve to be punished further just because of a spike in infections

Ever heard of a freezer?

Cry me a river than direct your focus at the citizens who disobeyed the government's directions around social distancing an alike.

I empathize with restaurateurs and all effected. But I also understand the government’s decision. Victorians don’t seem to get the message , most people act as if every thing is back to normal.

How gruelling for the hospitality, travel & most businesses adjusting to quick changes in regulation & organisation. This pandemic is beyond the nightmare!

Absolutely ridiculous

this is your fault. Stop making covid out to being worse than it really is. You’re destroying people’s livelihoods!

Give it to the homeless yaddy yadda...

Why is the age showing us daily that Victorian numbers are rising, then do articles like this? Are people watching how fast the world cases are riding now? If we don’t want to have America’s death toll we need restrictions. Enough with articles like this. We all hate it.

They jumped the starters gun

Andrews should pay them for this he doesn’t know what he is doing first save the medical system which is empty now it’s have zero cases

Blame those selfish pricks in vic.

VIC is a basket case

Misty__Bella Sue the Vic govt

It's a socialist attack on the private sector. They want to destroy capitalism and bring in their utopia.

Can they still do takeaways?

How many of these restaurants are there? Or is The Age pulling A Current Affair storytelling to make it seem like a big issue to create more outrage?

TimSmithMP springst AUSPOL COVID19Aus We have just been advised that all these families listened to Tim and O'Brien and are all Liberal voters, Thanks for the second wave of cov19 TimSmithMP & michaelobrienmp Just another liberal failure

TimSmithMP Class action against DanielAndrewsMP for breach of duty of care allowing a mass protest during a pandemic All business owners to join forces to sue Vic Govt, Vic Greens, BLM, GetUp and the ALP

Take your anger out on those individuals from that family gatherings that did not follow the rules!!!! They were the ones that has ruined your plans!!!!!!

Any dismay about the increase of covid?

Victoria brings back tougher coronavirus restrictions as 25 new cases diagnosedVictoria records 25 new coronavirus cases as Premier Daniel Andrews brings back tougher restrictions to address the state's recent spike in cases. Not quite: Retrictions as they stand are not being made tougher. The prposed easing of restrictions from tomorrow have been deferred until 12 July. If the situation worsens, then further restrictions will be reintroduced. COVID19 Should be some very severe consequences for those families ignoring being told to isolate when they’re positive and all mingling! Putting us all at risk, so fucking selfish! 🤬🤬 So we have a 1000+ health officials tracing contacts, special police department following up people in isolation. Most in hotels under security lock up. What 2 or 3, max 5 familys in self isolation. Dan cannot manage the situation. Is he fit for role?

What's changing under Victoria's tightened coronavirus restrictions?Due to Victoria's unfortunate coronavirus pandemic relapse, the state's health authorities are tightening up restrictions again. Here's what it means for you. Hopefully the number of new cases!! Good grief! Victoria could sure learn a thing or two from many developing countries that have been somewhat spectacular in their control of this problem. What isn't changing is Red Dan's corrupt Labor governments mishandling of this virus.
