Republicans struggle to defend Donald Trump

A growing number of congressional Republicans expressed exasperation on Friday over what they view as President Donald Trump's indefensible behaviour, a sign that the president's stranglehold on his party is starting to weaken as Congress hurtles toward a historic impeachment vote.

A few Republicans are starting to say they flat-out won't do it anymore - particularly the president's choice of his Trump National Doral Miami golf resort for next year's Group of Seven summit of world leaders, a selection that will benefit him financially. While several have criticised the president over policy, such as the withdrawal of U.S. forces from northern Syria, they have argued against impeachment.

Other Republicans shrugged off the latest controversies, including Trump's choice of his Florida resort for the international meeting.

Why bother trying to defend the indefensible. When something reaches the point of being recognised as a totally lost cause, it is more simple to leave it alone to rot in its own orange stench.
