BREAKING: The Finke Desert Race at Alice Springs has cancelled key events after an ‘incident’ on the racetrack with one reported death and two confirmed injuries.

Organisers said on Facebook that NT Police were investigating the scene, with the incident occurring 35 kilometres down the track of the off-road race from Alice Springs to Aputula.Organisers said vehicles had been stopped on the course and would be recovered by crews.

“Motorsport Australia and Event Organisers have advised that as the NT Police are still carrying out investigations at the scene of today’s incident, the Clerk of the Course has declared the Car Section of the Finke Desert Race concluded,” they said in a Facebook post. “Arrangements will be made in conjunction with NT Police for vehicles stopped on the course at various locations on the Finke Track to be recovered by crews.
