is the most expensive city for public education in all of Australia, costing parents over $100,000 for 13 years of schooling, according to new data.from Futurity Investment Group estimates that parents spend $102,807 per child over the total length of their school education, making the cost of public education in Melbourne 17 per cent higher than the national average.

"Around five per cent of the total true cost of education can be attributed to school fees and the other 95 per cent for a government education is really around all of those ancillary costs," Futurity Investment Group Executive Kate Hill said. Sydney is the second most expensive city for public education, costing parents $89,500 over 13 years – two per cent above the national average.Canberra was the most affordable city for government-funded schooling, costing families $77,002 over the course of an entire school education.The public school system costs parents in Melbourne $102,807 per childOutside tutoring will set Victorian families back by more than $1350 per child.

Parents sending their children to private or independent schools in Melbourne pay $307,508 per child over the same period.
