Report calculates indigenous businesses worth $4.8 billion a year, and growing fast

Researchers have tallied the value of Indigenous businesses for the first timeBy comparison, the beer industry was worth $4.3 billion that year

Jeremy Clark is a Tjap/Peek Whurrong traditional owner from south-western Victoria, and the business and development manager at a majority-Indigenous-owned construction firm based in Melbourne, called Barpa. "I think the levels of employment that we've been able to provide, and the level of support to other Indigenous businesses, whether they be subcontractors or suppliers, that's been a real key focus."Researchers have calculated, for the first time, the value of Indigenous businesses to the overall Australian economy.

"They contribute employment and deliver services to Indigenous communities, including health and education services in a culturally sensitive manner that is essential for ensuring trust and accessibility of service for Indigenous people that rely on them."
