Dollarmite was/is a great concept for children to understand the importance of saving and managing money. Perhaps a slightly higher % rate as an added incentive wouldn't hurt. Once enough has been saved at Primary introduce Shares at Secondary level.
financial literacy is great, but letting the banks control it is definitely something to be looked at. God knows the weight of inertia is the only reason I'm still with commbank today...
I had dollarmites and I turned out ok... Never charged anyone a fee for no service...
This year my daughter in first grade started Dollarmites. It's a great initiative aimed at teaching kids the value of money and to encourage regular saving. The kids aren't 'trapped' into being customers, we can take our money and leave anytime.

Replace Dollarmites with a non-profit teaching package that doesn't glamorise credit.
It was a financial literacy program like Dollarmites that encouraged my son to take a keen interest in saving & budgeting & watching his money grow, so much so he was able to purchase his first house at 19. He’s now 30 Financial literacy and banking programs in schools is vital.
Children love banking in school. Don't leave it to parents, many of them don't engage with their children, read to their children, play with their children as they are too busy playing on their phones
