Australia’s de-facto gambling regulator privately lobbying the government to stall the roll-out of a marquee tool to help problem gamblers.

Former NSW premier Barry O’Farrell first flagged the introduction of a national self-exclusion register in 2016.Since then, the register has slowly made its way to becoming policy, with the Morrison government passing legislation to create the register in 2019.

According to the subsequent letter from the NTRC’s Mr Shields, online bookmakers believed there were privacy concerns with keeping all the personal details of problem gamblers in one place. “If that is not possible, given the above mentioned constraints, we would ask the department and the ACMA to further consult on these important issues and work with industry to address them adequately before implementation.”

Major gambling reforms approved by NSW governmentLIVE: NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and NSW Crime Commissioner Michael Barnes will make a significant announcement in relation to poker machines. DETAILS: 9News Dom_Perrottet What about online gambling Its a bigger issue than pokies Dom_Perrottet Saying gambling is a problem Labor created is so disingenuous and absolutely uncalled for. Big announcement has to come with ridiculous dig. Seems to be the LNP making the biggest mess in NSW. Will these changes clear it up? Are they across the board? Or just a trial next year? Restricting the card to 1,500 per day, does nothing to address the real problem gamblers. They would be pressed to earn that in a week, this is for money laundering. It is still NOT good enough.
