BREAKING: The federal government has told Australians to reconsider their need to travel to Wuhan as the Chinese city is quarantined following the outbreak of a coronavirus.

The federal government has told Australians to reconsider their need to travel to Wuhan as the Chinese city is quarantined following the outbreak of a coronavirus.of 11 million people during Lunar New Year, the busiest travel period on the Chinese calendar.

Health Minister Greg Hunt said Australian travellers were advised to reconsider their need to travel to Wuhan.Health Minister Greg Hunt said after consulting with Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Foreign Affairs Minister Marise Payne, they had requested a review of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade travel advisory for Wuhan.

"That advisory has now been upgraded and advises Australian travellers to reconsider their need to travel to Wuhan," he said.A China Eastern airlines flight from Wuhan is scheduled to arrive in Sydney on Thursday at 11:30am. The flight is one of the last out of the city's airport, which has been inundated by passengers attempting to leave before all flights are cancelled at 10am , 1pm AEDST.

DFAT said Chinese authorities had put new measures in place to contain the spread of the coronavirus. "This includes wearing masks in public places and avoiding travel in and out of Wuhan."
