Former prime minister Tony Abbott says the “real” perpetrator of the MH17 “atrocity” is “Vladimir Putin” amid a recent guilty verdict being laid down to two Russians and a Ukrainian separatist.

The two Russians and one Ukrainian were identified as being responsible for the deaths of 298 people, including 38 Australians. A third Russian suspect was acquitted.

“Russian missile batteries do not cross borders by accident. It only happens if the Russian leader provides that authorisation,” Mr Abbott told Sky News host Chris Kenny. Mr Abbott says Mr Putin “really does have to accept responsibility, apologise, pay reparations to the families”. The court found the men shot down the aircraft with a Russian-made surface-to-air BUK missile – launched from the separatist region of eastern Ukraine in 2014.

‘Fear’ the energy crisis ‘will get much worse’: Tony AbbottFormer prime minister Tony Abbott says he fears the energy crisis “will get much worse” in Australia. “All of us want to reduce emissions as far and as fast as we can but not if it means the lights going out and not if it means massive job losses, and the continued export of our manufacturing industries to less fastidious countries overseas such as our great strategic rival China,” Mr Abbott told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “I really think the government is creating a dreadful problem for itself, we can see in Europe before our very eyes what happens if you over rely on unreliable, intermittent renewable power. “They’re franticly trying to get more gas, they’re franticly trying to reopen coal-fired power stations, and yet we’re desperate to shut down the coal-fired power stations that currently give us 60 per cent of our power with no substitute. “I cannot think of a more counterproductive policy or a greater exercise in economic self-harm.” Does he mention HIS Failure of a government that did NOTHING to assist early on? The LNP are 💩 as a Government, but Outstanding at Rewriting History! And have NO SHAME! There’s more coal in Australia than there’s rice in China … “energy crisis” 🥴🤦🏻‍♂️… “Con job” more like it… Fearmongering needs to stop
