Water restrictions will take effect from December 10 and apply to water use outside the home, with people required to use buckets when watering their gardens and washing their cars

Premier Gladys Berejiklian has fast-tracked the implementation of Level 2 water restrictions in Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Illawarra regions as dam levels deplete faster than expected.

"We are in uncharted territory in terms of the rate at which [water] has been declining. In fact, in the last 12 month we only received 10 per cent of the water in our dams that we ordinarily would," Ms Berejiklian said on Thursday. The Greater Sydney dam levels are 46.1 per cent full and are expected to hit 45 per cent next month as they sink by about 1 percentage point a week, even with the desalination plant operating at full tilt.

People wanting to fill up their pools will need to obtain a permit, while those topping up pools and spas are limited to 15 minutes a day and even then with a trigger nozzle. Water Minister Melinda Pavey said the government would work "hand in glove" with businesses particularly affected by the restrictions, such as nurseries, "to ensure they can keep their businesses afloat".

Where’s the desalination plant upto or is that another Gladys mess ?

Plumber thought I was crazy putting in 5000L slimline tank package in suburban Sydney. Now it runs garden irrigation, car washing & toilets.

Nice work Askin, Wran, Unsworth, Greiner, Fahey, Carr, Iemma, O’Farrell, Baird & GladysB for doing NOTHING about increasing capacity & thanks for nothing to Whitlam, Fraser, Hawke, Keating, Howard, Rudd, Gillard & Abbott for the extra 3million Sydneysiders! Good job! nswpol

Imagine if we had a desalination plant we could turn on to help... oh wait we do. 😡

Cruise ships 350 of them will visit Sydney this season each one will take onboard 2000 Tonnes of our water per visit Water we dont have We also dont need the pollution they create with their filthy stone age engines

Fuck off im not doing that the government has had 16 years since the last drought to do something about it. But no they just kick the can down the road and wait for things to get better. These dams are not sufficient for our growing population!

Any chance of putting a stop to mass immigration based population growth while we secure resources that are vital for survival?

Meanwhile, thanks to Morrison, 2,000 additional people arrive in Sydney each week, week in, week out. Stop the flow, maybe?

And what about big businesses? How are they being regulated and made to conserve water?

and Sydneysiders think Perth people are behind. Sydney, you all better recycle your water.

This is baffling. There is either too much rain with flooding or no rain with a drought in various stages and this is a global phenomena
