Rainfall is aiding the firefighting efforts of Rural Fire Service crews responding to multiple fires in the Blue Mountains, two of which are out of control.
The out-of-control fires are near Bodington Drive in Wentworth Falls, which is a hectare in size, and Taylor Road at Woodford, which is less than a hectare. A fire at Grey Gum drive in Woodford has been deemed under control.Kate Geraghty Rural Fire Service Inspector Ben Shepherd said the fires were believed to have been sparked by lightning at the leading edge of a storm front moving over the area on Sunday afternoon, which has been followed by heavy rainfall.
He said that, while the rainfall was preventing fire crews from travelling along the fire trails to reach the fires, it was helping to bring the blazes under control. It comes as Sydney swelters through a heatwave, with Penrith, at the foot of the mountains, reaching 39 degrees earlier on Sunday.
AngusGthompson Hazard Reduction Burns gone wrong? Started by NSWRFS rogues? Thing is, fire has become a huge industry to the extent that fires are actually needed. Manufacturers and peoples’ jobs depend in it. Such as the half dozen NSWRFS execs on 6 figure salaries.
