The viability of the AFL season is in doubt with Annastacia Palaszczuk unlikely to allow Queensland’s borders to re-open any time soon with Victoria, according to Sky News Political editor Andrew Clennell. Victoria is grappling with the largest outbreak of COVID-19 cases in months. The state recorded 75 new cases in the past 24 hours – the highest jump since March.
“A greater concern out of this Victorian outbreak is what will happen with the state borders,” he said. “I expect a decision from Queensland on this in the next 24 hours on their original opening date of July 10. “But it is not looking good, with Annastacia Palaszczuk threatening the viability of the AFL season today by not even letting Melbourne based teams in without 14-day quarantining and the same for returning Queensland players.
