Queensland Health has played down long COVID in the state, but experts say the condition must be taken seriously.

Queensland Health says it does not believe there is a high incidence of long COVID in the state, despite experts saying the number of cases will climb., Queensland Health said the state did not have high numbers of long COVID patients because the majority of infections were from the milder Omicron variant and had hit a population that was highly vaccinated against the illness.

Mater infectious disease expert Dr Paul Griffin said he disagreed with Queensland Health’s approach, saying too little was known about long COVID to dismiss it as a minor issue. “There’s still a lot we don’t know, and we have to recognise there are people suffering from long COVID – even in Queensland – who need to be supported.”

One such clinic is being run by the Wesley Hospital, which has seen about 50 patients since opening in July.

Well, Queensland Health does. After a decent start in 2020, they’ve been disgraceful since capitulating to the cafe owners and Qantas, abandoning all preventive health measures late last year. No wonder they are trying to deny long Covid, they’re responsible for most of it.

This Paul Griffin bloke needs to be put in a straight jacket.
