The Stanthorpe fire is still the main concern for emergency crews with Hawkwood and Sarabah also being closely monitored.Yesterday, the large fast-moving blaze was affecting Glenlyon Dr, Amiens Rd and the New England Highway, according to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

Southern Downs mayor Tracy Dobbie says the bushfire has taken out a substation and much of Stanthorpe is without power.Cr Dobbie said some people evacuated town earlier in the day but there were still many left behind, sheltering in their homes due to the speed the fire had descended upon them.Across the border in New South Wales, the fire threat has downgraded with firefighters managing to control blazes on the East Coast.

In the Blue Mountains, a bushfire was burning in Lidsdale, however evening showers helped firefighters get the upper hand. More than 95 hectares of land was destroyed in just a few hours. In the state's north, the Tenterfield fire has been downgraded to a "Watch and Act" and Bees Nest, Drake and Tenterfield fires still have "Emergency" warnings in place."Too close, real quick," one flustered resident in the state's north told 9News.

His hands, arm, legs, back, face and airways were burned yesterday while he and a colleague fought the Mount Mackenzie Road fire, which has burned more than 3500 hectares south of the Tenterfield township.
