Although the Queensland businessman's political party failed a federal membership test, the Electoral Commission of Queensland declares it will have no effect on the October 31 Queensland election.

A federal probe into the possible deregistration of Clive Palmer's United Australia Party will not be replicated at the state level. The Australian Electoral Commission issued a notice of intention to deregister Clive Palmer's partyUnited Australia Party currently lists 16 candidates for the Queensland election

That test involved asking the party to supply a list of between 500 and 550 members who are on the Commonwealth electoral roll, then taking a random sample to verify if they were current members of the party. Under Queensland law, the party is also required to have at least 500 members to maintain its registration, but the ECQ has a different process for determining this.An ECQ spokesperson said the commission conducted a "membership survey" when Clive Palmer's United Australia Party applied for registration in April.

"Given the recency of the membership survey of the CPUAP and the proximity of the state general election, the ECQ does not intend on conducting another membership survey," the ECQ spokesperson said. Despite not winning a single seat, the businessman claimed to have played a major role in stopping Labor from forming government.

Last week, one of Mr Palmer's private companies, Mineralogy, donated $2 million to the businessman's political party, putting it on a similar financial footing to Labor and the LNP.ASIC charges over 2013 money transfer
