"For 250 days we have been asking the community for a bit of patience, I'm going to ask them for a few more hours to be a bit more patient," Queensland Police chief Superintendent Mark Wheeler told Today. "They will simply be diverted to the Gold Coast Highway and then across to Stuart Road. It won't add much time to the journey at all.
"And what we have seen is the police on our border checkpoints have smashed the curve, stopped COVID-19 coming into the Queensland and now we are in a position in today to have them do exactly the same thing to crime and offences committed on the roads.
