Qantas and Jetstar will give masks to all passengers, use staggered boarding and disembarkation to reduce crowding and ask travellers to limit movement around aircraft cabins in an effort to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission on flights.for a level of social distancing on board, saying such a policy is impractical and unnecessary.
“Social distancing on an aircraft isn’t practical the way it is on the ground, and given the low transmission risk on board, we don’t believe it’s necessary in order to be safe."While the International Air Transport Association has recommended against social distancing on flights, Air New Zealand is continuing to leave an empty seat between passengers on domestic flights. It has warned though that airfares will be higher as a result.
While Qantas is only operating about 5 per cent of its pre-pandemic domestic schedule, it sees demand and services picking up as interstate travel and activity restrictions start to ease.In an effort to encourage bookings, the group on Tuesday said it will offer greater flexibility to passengers who need to change their bookings.
