Qantas CEO Alan Joyce is optimistic domestic capacity will return to around 80 per cent of pre-COVID levels by June this year after the airline posted a first half loss of $1 billion.

The extended lockdown in Victoria and the strictest restrictions on domestic travel since the pandemic began resulted in a 70 per cent reduction in domestic travel. Qantas lost about 75 per cent of its revenue due to the measures.

The airline continues to restructure with Mr Joyce saying more than 5,000 people have left Qantas and another 3,500 will depart by the end of June. A total of 14,500 full time roles have been stood up again, but 11,000 related to the international part of the business remain stood down.

'You can't have zero risk for life': Qantas CEO pushes travel confidence | Sky News AustraliaQantas CEO Alan Joyce is warning Australia will lose its lead on other countries around the world in the fight against COVID-19 unless it is prepared to drop the elimination strategy once the population is vaccinated. \n\n“We do have an issue with the conservative nature and the minimum risk taking that’s there. If we applied that to everything else, we would not have cars on the road because people die, and people go to hospital,” he said. \n\n “So, you can’t have zero risk for life.'\n\nHe pointed out the “big elephant in the room” was the virus was likely to spread once international borders were reopened – despite the adult population being vaccinated. \n\n“But we’re not going to have the deaths, we’re not going to have the hospitalisations,” Mr Joyce said. \n\n“And if we don’t get our heads around that we’re going to lose tourists forever, we’re going to lose students forever, \nwe’re going to lose immigration … and we’re going to get behind from being ahead of every other economy in the world. \n \n“To be better than every other country at handling this we don’t want to drift behind because we’re too conservative later on in the year.'\n\nAsked about the impact of the federal government’s $1.2 billion support package – which will see 800,000 discounted airline tickets made available to Australians – Mr Joyce said it was likely to stave off further job losses, however, he could not guarantee it. \n\n“We’re still confident where we are with domestically and this package does help us keep the people that we think we need for international,” he told Sky News. \n\n“I can’t give a guarantee, I don’t know how this is going to pan out and whether there’s going to be more job losses needed. \n\n“That all depends on what happens … with the vaccine rollout, with the new variants of the vaccine and how things work around the globe. \n\n“But we think this does help protect jobs and that’s a real positive.” Are we going to ban staircases now? 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰 more 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰 SqantasedTheDeadKangaroo☠️🦘 Only cares about profit and not the health of Australians

'I got fired': Westpac ex-CEO wants to help you be 'better' after $1.3b blunderFormer Westpac CEO Brian Hartzer was fired after a money-laundering scandal led to a $1.3 billion fine. He's past it, and wants to help you better engage the people you work with, for and above. This wealthy American's capitalist ideals and privilege show us how fickle minded these people are. Let this hypocrite face trial in a court of law for his inadequacies. The common man would not be awarded such freedom. Free Julian Assange. Wasn’t the company he was in charge of got busted for breaking the law 23 million times? Getting 'fired' is not the case when you get a $2.7 million payout - why was this missing from the article
