Already a subscriber?Former treasurer Peter Costello is among high-profile corporate figures sounded out for the Qantas board as the airline reshapes its senior ranks with the departure of two directors this month and the company’s chairman, Richard Goyder, later this year.
Among the names raised by investors and analysts is outgoing National Australia Bank chief executive Ross McEwan, who will leave the bank on April 2 and Mr Costello, Mr Goyder, Ms Hey and Ms Brenner told investors they would exit this year after a tumultuous period for the company resulted in thePoor service and high airfares hurt the carrier’s reputation, with internal figures showing it had fallen behind its smaller rival Virgin Australia on all measures of brand trust, pride, “love”, value and transparency by November.
The market expects Qantas to report a $950 million profit in the six months to December 31 when it delivers a financial update this week,. Investors are watching to see how Qantas will balance spending on new aircraft as well as investments in customer service in a deteriorating economic environment.
